Helambu Trek
Our trek starts from the small dam and hydroelectric station of Sundarijal after going on a sightseeing tour around Kathmandu. During which, we plan on visiting Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Upon driving north-east to Sundarijal, we climb up along the stone steps onto the Shivapuri ridges. While continuing uphill and through the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, we can enjoy stunning presence of waterfalls and forests. Soon after that, we will reach Chisopani which serves as a resting point for travelers and tourists. Moving forward along our trail, we pass through the villages of Kutumsang, Thadepati and Tarkeghyang.
Home of the Hyolmo people, this trekking trail offers everything from breathtaking views, lovely towns, friendly people and cultural diversity. Suitable for trekking with family as well, this trek provides you the opportunity to experience a perfect blend of nature and culture without reaching high altitude. And that’s because the maximum altitude of our trek lies around 3700m. At the end our trek, we move to Sermanthang village before reaching Melamchi Pul Bazaar in the Helambu region. From there, we plan on driving back to Kathmandu to mark the end of our trip.
In the trip, we pass through the wet sub-tropical forest to the oak forest and numerous scattered rural villages. Itinerary
Day 01: Kathmandu City tour
A guided city tour is scheduled for today. Our experienced guide shall take you to the heritages in Kathmandu Valley. With the information about the importance and other related details, we shall pay visit to the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, one of the most sacred pilgrimage of the Hindus around the world. We shall also explore the much revered Buddhist pilgrimages of Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa in Nepal that probably dates back to 14th century and another stupa of Swayambhunath Stupa or Monkey Temple that dates back to 5th or may be even 1st century. Other architecture we shall pay visit shall be the Patan Durbar Square, the royal palace, courtyard, temple and many more displaying the excellence of Nepalese artistry in the glorious past. You shall be provided with information about the adventure that shall begin the following day.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Sundarijal by Car or Jeep and trek to Chisapani. 2300m (3/4 hrs)
Today our trek shall begin. We shall make an hour’s drive to Sudarijal from Kathmandu by Car or Jeep. Sundarijal is a small settlement which serves as a busy picnic spot for people of Kathmandu valley and is surrounded by lush greenery, water sources and serene environment. We shall start our physical trekking from this place along a small hydroelectricity plant. Walking up through the stone stairs and through the oak, rhododendron and pine forests, few settlements such as Mulkhrka, variety of birds, and flora and fauna we reach to Chisapani via the Shivapuri National Park along the ridge.

Day 03: Trek from Chisapani to Kutumsang. 2446m (6/7 hrs)
Today we move ahead in the trail from Chisapani, a beautiful and small settlement that provides panoramic view of the Himalayas, layers of hills and lush vegetation as well as cultural richness. We pass through the settlements of Pati bhanjyang, Gul Bhanjyang, Thakuni, Chipling, Thotong and others where trekkers get an opportunity to interact with diverse communities such as the Brahmins, Chhetris Tamang and Yolmo. We get to marvel the views of Langtang Mountains, pass through meadows and fields and Passes before we have a downhill trek to the village of Kutumsang.

Day 04: Trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati. 3650m (5/6 hrs)
Today’s trek is mostly through the rhododendron and fir forests where we do not come across permanent settlements as in the other sections of the trail. The trail initially has gradual elevation through farmland and forests before we reach to Mera Danda. Further along the trail we have the marvelous view of mountain peaks as we move ahead in the route. We pass through the settlement of Mangin Goth and Thare Danda through dense pine forest and then have a steep climb on a rocky trail to the destination for today, Thadepati. Spreading along a meadow, this village has a small hill which provides an uninterrupted view of the Himalayas.

Day 05: Trek from Thadepati to Tarkeghyang. 2560m (5/6 hrs)
The destination for today is Tarkeghyang, also known as Helambu as it is mostly inhabited by the Helmu caste. The initial part of today’s trek has a downhill march until the trail reaches the Melamchi River, a river hoped to quench the thirst of Kathmandu valley. Crossing the river we have a climb to the Tarkeghyang navigating through the Sherpa villages along the path. Earlier section of the trail provides the view of Langtang Lirug (7227m), Langshisha Ri (6427m), Gorje Lakpa (6966m) and the Jugal Himal besides the dense pine forest, seasonal grazing lands, tributaries, bridges, chortens and culturally rich villages with Buddhist influence before reaching Tarkeghyang. The village of Tarkeghyang has clustered houses and an ancient monastery, the Tarke Monastery which is the oldest in Helambu.

Day 06: Trek from Tarkeghyang to Sermathang. 2610m (4/5 hrs)
We have an easier trekking section as compared to the previous days. In the lower elevation of this entire trekking trail, today we pass through the dense forests, rivers and waterfalls and explore the Sherpa villages to get an insight into the rich Sherpa culture besides traversing on the trail that makes a sweep around the valley. We carry on the trail to reach the village of Sermathang where we shall explore the monastery on top of the village.

Day 07: Trek from Sermathang to Melemchi Pul Bazzar and drive to Kathmandu. (4/5 hrs)
Today is the final day of our trekking in the hills of Helambu region. We descend to the settlement of Dubhachaur and further move ahead through the steep trail to the town of Meamchi where we have access to road. From the village of Melamchi we drive to Kathmandu. The village of Melamchi has good collection of teahouses and is mostly inhabited by Sherpa community though other communities are also residing in the village.
